More cinema, more European

Seville Film Festival began last year with a lot of new changes. Now, waiting to meet again the experts from the European film industry, between the 2nd and the 10th November, 2007, this Festival has more and new sections, giving special attention to an European country cinematography. Last three editions Seville paid tribute to the German, French and Italiand films. Once again, the Festival will enjoy with the great European cinema of the year along different competitive sections and additional activities such as seminars, lectures, exhibitions, public presentations...
Kenneth Branagh and the national premiere of his latest film, The Magic Flute, raised the curtain of the 2006 edition of Seville Film Festival 100% European, which took place from 3rd to 11th November. Last three years editions introduced new features: more films, new sections, and a special focus on the German filmmaking (2004), French films (2005) and Italian filmaking in 2006, with Francesco Rosi and Tonino Guerra as honour guests.

Seville, once again, opened its doors to the best and most recent European films, which were seen by 80,000 people in 2006 (15,000 more spectators than the previous edition), and divided into the various sections that make up the Festival. Furthermore, Seville Film Festival organised a wide range of additional activities such as seminars, lectures and exhibitions.

The Festival took place in its official venues: the Lope de Vega Theatre and the Cines Nervión Multiplex. The national premier of the latest film directed by Branagh, The Magic Flute, was screened during the Festival’s Opening Gala on the 3rd November. During the gala the British actor and director was given a special recognition, the 'Seville City of Music Award' in acknowledgement of his long and multi-faceted film career as well as the choice of music in his films.

Seville Film Festival is now consolidated as the best showcase for European filmmaking globally. Last year, it showed 160 of the most prestigious long feature films, documentaries and short films produced, not only in the European Union, but also in other neighbour countries such as Turkey, the Balkan countries, Norway, Russia, Switzerland, Israel and Palestine.

The Festival, which next edition will be celebrated from the 2nd to the 10th of November 2007, has become a reference point for the European film industry as well as a meeting point for distribution professionals both within and out of the Continent. In fact, one of its most interesting features is that the awards (worth a total of 240,000 euros) are given to support the distribution of the winner films in Spain.

The Seville Film Festival programme has aimed at all types of public. Spectators have once again the opportunity to watch films that reflect the day-to-day existence of our European neighbours, in a key historical moment after the European Union enlargement to 27 countries. The Festival is an excellent opportunity to bring the film culture closer to the younger generations, providing them with a comprehensive offer of leisure and culture. A prominent cultural opportunity which has been appreciated and welcomed by the Andalusian people, who are more and more committed to the seventh art.
