THE DIRECTOR PETER GREENAWAY TO DESIGN THE POSTER FOR THE SEVILLE EUROPEAN FILM FESTIVAL 2010
Holland will be the guest country. The VII edition will be held from 5th to 13th November.
The seventh edition of the Seville European Film Festival SEFF '10 will be held from 5th to 13th November, with Holland as the guest country.
The Welsh director and painter Peter Greenaway will be responsible for designing this year's poster, following Bigas Luna and Carlos Saura who designed the posters for the two previous editions.
Peter Greenaway has directed, among other films, "The Cook, the Thief, His Wife & Her Lover" (1989), "The Draughtsman's Contract" (1982) and "The Belly of an Architect" (1987). In recent years he has created a series of multimedia experiences, with a personal ambition to reinvent film language, such as "Nightwatching", about Rembrandt's painting, "Night Watch", and "The Wedding at Cana", about Veronese's painting.
Holland is this year’s guest country, after having received awards at the last two editions of SEFF with two silver Giraldillos. In 2008 "Katia's Sister", by Mijke de Jong, won the award and last year it was "Nothing Personal", by Ursula Antoniak. The films were received enthusiastically by both audiences and critics. The Festival will offer a panorama of the most recent Dutch cinema in the section titled "Wild Tulips".
On Saturday 6th November, the Festival will organize the announcement of the nominations for the European Film Academy (EFA) awards. It will show a series of films pre-nominated by the Academy as well as a series of co-productions supported by Eurimages and those made by Canal Arte, among others.
Along with film screenings, the Seville Festival will carry out its activities aimed at the film industry, to encourage meetings between professionals in the sector and the development of co-productions, distribution and the study of new technologies applied to the cinema, in collaboration with various institutions, associations and companies. It will also offer courses and seminars organized in conjunction with Seville University.
The last edition of SEFF broke all the festival's records to date as regards the number of spectators, almost seventy thousand, films screened (171 films from 34 countries) and also in media repercussion, which has multiplied by six since 2008. This media repercussion meant an estimated audience of 196,053, 290 people in the last edition and an ecomomic valuation of 4,758,348€, according to a study carried out by TNS Media Intelligence for SEFF '09.
